Autumn & Winter in Gastein

Between golden days and clear winter air

When the days grow quieter, the valley is bathed in warm colours and later the snow wraps the mountains in white, the Gastein Valley reveals one of its most beautiful sides. At GRETI it’s not about ticking off a programme, but about truly arriving: outside, nature and crisp mountain air; inside, warmth, water and that good GRETI feeling of really coming to rest.

In the morning our “Gipfelstürmer” breakfast sets you up for the day – honest, regional and just right for clear autumn and winter days. After that, anything is possible: snowshoe walks, spa and sauna time at the Alpentherme Bad Hofgastein, skiing, snowboarding or quiet winter moments away from the pistes on a gentle walk – all the way through to winter events in the valley or a drink in our own ROOTS Alpine Bar & Lounge.

Autumn Moments

Panoramic views, clear air – and afterwards, relax in the thermal baths.

Autumn is perfect for panoramic hikes, crisp mountain air and warm colours in the valley. At this unhurried pace, with nothing pressing, you can simply head to the thermal spa after a walk or hike and let the day fade out slowly.

Especially at this time of year, yoga is a wonderful fit: less hustle, more calm and space to arrive in yourself. Whether as a gentle start to the morning or a stretch after a hike, yoga rounds off the autumn feeling perfectly and makes the combination of mountains, thermal spa and GRETI wellness even more relaxing and unhurried.

Winter in Bad Hofgastein

Ski day or winter rest

The Schlossalm is part of Ski amadé – one of the largest ski areas in Austria. With more than 200 kilometres of pistes (across all Ski amadé resorts), there’s something for everyone: gentle slopes for cruisers, wide family runs for little ones and more technical pistes for advanced skiers. And if you’re drawn to the deep snow, there are freeride areas and untouched powder fields waiting for you.

Best of all: you can reach the Schlossalm cable car from GRETI in just 12 minutes on foot. Or you simply hop on the free ski bus – the stop is only 50 metres from the hotel.

#Good2know - ski room / ski depot

Your skis and snowboard are in good hands with us. There’s a free ski room waiting for you at the hotel – or, even more convenient, a ski depot right at the valley station at Sport Fleiss. That way you can start your ski day with ease and return completely relaxed. You’ll find more information and booking details here: Infos & Booking

Off-piste

There is winter in the Gastein Valley even without skiing.

Away from the pistes, there are plenty of ways to slow down, breathe deeply and recharge.

On a winter or snowshoe walk, you explore the snowy wonderland on foot – through quiet forests, along gentle paths, right into the calm of the valley. Especially beautiful: a stroll through the snow-covered woods in Angertal. Here you feel the silence, the crisp air – and the healing power of the forest. A kind of winter forest bathing, completely natural.

Add to that the fun of tobogganing, cross-country skiing on well-groomed trails or a leisurely horse-drawn sleigh ride – wrapped up warm, with no rush. Winter at GRETI means: everything is possible, nothing is compulsory.

Winter Moments & Events

Traditions, Advent atmosphere and music in the snow.

Some winter moments are quiet. Others remain loud in our memories. The Gastein Perchten & Krampus runs are among the most impressive experiences in the valley. Raw, powerful, deeply rooted in tradition – nothing staged, just authentic Gastein.

on the mountain - in the valley

During Advent, winter reveals its gentler side: lights, Christmas markets, hot drinks, a slower pace of life. And then there are the contrasts: Gastein brings music to the cold season – with the ski opening, concerts, and special venues nestled in the mountains.

Snow, beats and crisp air. A combination you won't forget. Add to that numerous other events and festivals that keep the valley alive – regional, authentic and full of character. Winter in the Gastein Valley can be both: peaceful. And a real party.
