Hiking holidays in Gastein

A little bit of adventure, a little bit of time out.

As the days grow longer, your stay at the GRETI Alpine Boutique Hotel in Bad Hofgastein becomes the perfect hiking getaway: trails right on your doorstep, peaks within easy reach – and that feeling of ‘simply being there’.

Your hiking day begins in the morning with our ‘Summit Conqueror’ breakfast – authentic, locally sourced and prepared with lots of love. Then you lace up your boots and you’re straight into it: the Gastein hiking trail network starts right on our doorstep. Whether it’s a gentle leisurely walk with panoramic views, hopping from alpine pasture to alpine pasture with a stop at a mountain hut, or a summit tour for those who want to go higher – whatever suits your fitness level, the weather and your mood. And when your legs start to feel heavy in the afternoon, the Alpentherme Gastein is ready and waiting: warm thermal water, mountain views, plenty of peace and quiet – included free of charge and with unlimited access for you as a GRETI guest. We finish off your day in style: first a bit of sauna and relaxation, then an aperitif atmosphere – a drink in our very own ROOTS Alpine Bar & Lounge or on the large terrace in the garden. That’s how every day of hiking becomes a complete day full of that special feeling – just like at home, only better.

Everyone finds their own way

from the panoramic trail to the gorge

From GRETI, you can quickly reach places of great beauty – whether you’re off on a solo adventure, seeking peace and quiet as a couple, or planning a trip with the whole family. Leisurely walks with unique panoramic views, flower-filled meadows at around 1,000 metres above sea level, plus family-friendly trails – for example, at the Schlossalm. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace will find what they’re looking for here, just as will anyone keen to head higher up for a summit hike or a tour of alpine pastures with stops at mountain huts.

Your starting point

DIRECTLY AT GRETI

Right here at our hotel, you’ll find your starting point for the day: an information board showing the region’s entire network of hiking trails and a signpost showing you the way – from short hikes to summit treks. Guided tours & information

FROM THE GRETI TEAM & THE TOURISM OFFICE

You don’t need to be an expert hiker to enjoy the mountains with us. Our team knows the region well and will advise you every day on which route best suits the weather, your fitness level and your preferences. If you’d prefer to hike in a group, you can join one of the guided hikes organised by the Gastein Tourist Board – held at least twice a week, led by qualified hiking guides, and bookable directly at our reception.

Hiking with your dog

LET'S GO OUT TOGETHER

Your dog is also very welcome to join us on your journey. Many of the trails in the Gastein Valley are dog-friendly, and after your hike, your dog will find their own dog bed and organic dog food waiting for them at GRETI – which is particularly appealing with our ‘GRETI’s Dog Happiness’ package.

Thermal Baths & Wellness

Dive in, breathe deeply, recharge.

If the weather isn't cooperating or you simply want to relax after an active day, the Alpentherme Bad Hofgastein is the perfect destination. As a GRETI guest, you have free entry – with warm thermal water, spacious relaxation areas, a family area with water features and slides, a bathing lake, and numerous saunas and relaxation zones with mountain views.

And in the small, elegant GRETI wellness area, relaxation continues: Finnish sauna, infrared cabin, steam bath, plunge pool in the outdoor cold room and relaxation room – here you feel warmth on your skin, the scent of Swiss pine in the air and your mind becomes clear.

#Gastein - a hidden gem for the whole year

The Gastein Valley, nestled in the heart of the Salzburg region, is a hidden gem that offers something special in every season. Our top insider tip: the golden autumn. Crisp air, warm days, colourful hillsides and plenty of peace and quiet to unwind. And even when the snow arrives, it’s far from the end of the hiking season: winter hiking and snowshoeing through the quiet, snow-covered mountains are among the most beautiful experiences in the valley – at a more leisurely pace, but just as rewarding as in summer. Discover Gastein all year round – the GRETI is your perfect base camp, whatever the season.
